Teaching Tools: Thinglink

What is Thinglink?

ThingLink is an interactive platform that enables you to create immersive virtual experiences by enhancing images and videos with clickable hotspots. These hotspots can include text, links, multimedia elements, and more, allowing you to create engaging virtual tours, annotated images, and interactive content. You can share your creations on Canvas or through direct links, making it a versatile tool for study aids or instructional materials.

Getting Started with ThingLink

  • Sign Up: Click “Start Now” and follow the prompts to create an account using your Harcum email.
  • Once your account is set up, you’ll be directed to the home screen where you can explore various features.
  • With a free account, you can access the Home, Media, and 360° Library sections. These options allow you to browse and utilize a range of resources for creating interactive content.

Creating an Interactive Image with ThingLink

  • Click on “Create” and then select “Upload Image” to choose the image you want to work with from your files.
  • After selecting and uploading your image, you’ll be directed to an editing interface with several options.
  • Click on “Add Tag” to place a new interactive element on your image. The tag will initially appear at a random location, but you can click and drag it to your desired position.
  • Once positioned, you can configure the tag by selecting the type of content you want to include, such as text, links, videos, or images. This allows you to provide additional information or interactive elements.
  • After setting up your tags, you can preview how they will appear to viewers. ThingLink includes a built-in reader to help students interact with the content.
  • When you’re satisfied with your interactive image, save your project and share it via a direct link or by embedding it into platforms like Canvas.
