Code of Conduct

To keep our library welcoming and productive for everyone, please follow these simple guidelines:

  • Different areas have different noise guidelines—some quiet, some for group work. Please respect these to help everyone focus.

  • Please put your phone on silent or vibrate. If you need to take a call, step outside or use designated areas.

  • When listening to music, videos, or lectures, use headphones and keep the volume low enough so it doesn’t bother others.

  • We encourage conversation and collaboration, but please keep your voice at a considerate volume so everyone can enjoy the space.

  • Help us keep the library neat by throwing away trash and tidying your area when you leave.

  • If you notice anything that needs attention or if you need help, just ask the library staff.

Food and Drink

To maintain a clean and productive environment, please follow these rules:

  • Snacks & Drinks: Allowed in the Rotunda and second-floor group study areas. Use covered containers and sealed snacks to prevent spills.
  • Dispose of trash in designated bins.
  • Report spills or issues to Library staff immediately.
  • No food or drinks in computer areas or Technology Labs to protect equipment.
  • If ordering food, please enjoy it outside the library.

Collection Development

The Charles H. Trout Library is committed to providing Harcum College students, faculty, and staff with a diverse, comprehensive, and current collection of resources that supports scholarly research and academic excellence. In accordance with our Collection Development Policy, we carefully select materials that align with the educational mission and values of the College community.

Our collection is curated to address the varied needs of all users, emphasizing the availability of resources in accessible formats to accommodate diverse learning preferences. The library conducts ongoing evaluations and updates of its holdings to ensure that the collection remains relevant, accurate, and in compliance with both institutional academic requirements and accreditation standards.

We welcome feedback from our users and invite suggestions for new resources that will further enhance the collection.

If you have any questions, email Katie McGowan or call 610-526-6062.
