Kanopy : Tutorial

If you are in the Library or elsewhere on campus, you can click on Kanopy and view films directly off your device.

If you are off-campus, you can click on Kanopy from the Library's website. 

Click on VISIT THE HARCUM COLLECTION. You will be asked to enter the username/password to Kanopy which is available from the Library Database Password icon in Harcum Hatch.  If you already have a Kanopy account, click on Log in at the top right-hand side of your screen and enter your own username and password.

A Kanopy account allows you to use a watchlist to keep track of films you want to watch, easily continue watching films you started, create and share playlists, and use Kanopy's TV and mobile apps.

Academic users can create an account with these steps:

1. Open Kanopy in a web browser. (You may be prompted to log in with the Kanopy username and password.)
2. Select the account menu  in the top-right corner, then select Create an account.
3. Enter your name, Harcum email address, and password, then click Sign up.

 Note: Your password must be at least 6 characters.

4. You will be taken to Kanopy's homepage, where you can now access the full menu of Kanopy features.

To reset your password:

1. Go to kanopy.com/user/password.
2.  Enter your Harcum email address you use to log in to Kanopy, then select Reset Password. A reset password email will be sent to your Harcum email address.
3. In the email, click Reset Password to open the reset password page.
4. Enter your new password in the box provided, then click Reset Password. Your password must be at least 6 characters.

Custom Playlists allow you to create, edit, and share film lists and clips on the Kanopy website. (This feature isn't available on the mobile or TV apps). To get started, select My Lists at the top of any page, then click the Custom Playlists tab.

Creating a playlist and adding films

To create a custom playlist:

1. From the Custom Playlists tab, select Create New Playlist.
2. Give your playlist a name and click Create New Playlist.

To add films to a playlist:

1. Open a film's details page.
2. Select the Playlists tab.
3. Click  next to your custom playlist.

To share a playlist:

1. From the Custom Playlists tab, select a playlist.
2. Select the Share tab.
3. Select Copy Link to copy a sharable link to this playlist.

Editing or deleting a playlist

To edit custom playlists:

1. From the Custom Playlists tab, select ... next to a playlist.
2. Click Edit to edit your playlist, or click Delete to delete it.

While editing a playlist, you can rename the playlist and edit or delete clips.

While editing a playlist:

• Tap  to delete a clip.
• Tap  to edit a clip. On the "Edit Clip" screen, you can rename the clip or add a note to it. You can also set specific start and end times for the clip. Select Save Changes when you're done.

To create and/or access your Kanopy account, you must use your Harcum email address. If you need assistance with Kanopy, email library@harcum.edu or call 610-526-6085.

On the website

To add a title or series to your watchlist, hover your cursor over it. When the title card appears, select Add to My Watchlist.

You can also add a title or series to your watchlist from its details page by selecting Add to Watchlist . Select Remove from Watchlist  to remove the title.

You can see your watchlist on the My Lists page. To remove a title from your watchlist, hover your cursor over it and select Remove from My Watchlist.

On the mobile app

To add a title to your watchlist, tap the title image. Then, on the title details page, select + Watchlist. Tap - Watchlist to remove the title.

You can see your watchlist on the My Lists page. To remove a title from your watchlist, select the three vertical dots next to the title, then select Remove from Watchlist.

To share a film or playlist, go to the details page for any film or playlist and select the Share tab. 

Here you will find several options for sharing the video:

• Link: Provides a direct link to the title or playlist details page. Select Copy Link to copy the link to your clipboard, or select an "Email & Social Media" option to share the link through that platform.
• Embed This Video: Generates a link for embedding a video on another website where HTML is supported (e.g., a personal website or a learning management system). Select Copy Link to copy the link to your clipboard. To watch the embedded video, the viewer will need to enter their Kanopy credentials for your institution. Watching a film through an embedded link uses a ticket.
• Citation Tool: Creates citations for films and series in various styles. Select your preferred citation style, then select Copy Text to copy the citation to your clipboard. (The citation tool isn't available for playlists.)
