Career & Transfer Services: College Research

This guide highlights library resources that can be used for career exploration, interview preparation, and college transfer decision-making.

Find your Next College

We have broken down the steps to finding your next college into three steps. Use the resources linked below steps 1 through 3 to help you complete each step.

When you have chosen your target school or schools, talk to the Career & Transfer Department about applying and transferring.

1. List Your Priorities

A college search starts with a list of priorities. Make a list of your top requirements for college. Think about things like the following:

  • Location
  • Cost
  • Academic programs
  • Class size
  • Housing
  • On-campus services, such as disability services, tutoring, library, career office, counselling, cafeteria, bank, pharmacy, grocery store, medical clinic, and anything else you need.
  • Accreditation and reputation - check that the college and the program is accredited. Find out what employers generally think of the program and the school.
  • Credits or transfer agreement – how many credits will they accept from Harcum College? Does Harcum have a special agreement with the school?

The following are printable worksheets you can use to help you determine your college needs.

2. Find Schools

3. Get to Know the School

Get to know the school better by looking at the website. Look up the program you are considering and read through any literature on the school website. Look for mentions of the services that are important to you like disability services, pet policies, and transfer requirements.
